The new State Laboratory is an 11,000 sq m facility containing laboratories, offices, archive storage and a conference centre. The main laboratory areas are: Agricultural & Customs; Environmental & Analytical; and Toxicology.
The architect for the project was OPW Architectural Services and Eddie O Donovan of PHM was the structural designer, when at PH McCarthy Consulting Engineers.
The building has a steel framed superstructure with pre-cast concrete floors and reinforced concrete stair and lift cores.
The State Laboratory is a part of a larger laboratory campus, which also includes new Department of Agriculture laboratories.
